Create your first world

From the title screen, select Singleplayer. Choose an existing save to continue, or Create New World to start fresh. The creation screen has Game, World, and More tabs.

  1. In Game, keep the default world name or enter your own.
  2. Choose a mode. Survival is the standard starting point. Creative is useful for free building and experimenting. Leave Hardcore for when you want a no-respawn challenge.
  3. Choose a difficulty. New worlds default to Normal; Peaceful removes hostile mobs and prevents hunger loss.
  4. In World, leave the seed empty for a random seed, or enter a number/text value to reproduce a world seed.
  5. Keep the default world rules unless you specifically want to change them, then select Create New World.
Mode What it means here
Survival Explore, collect, craft, and fight. Difficulty controls hostile mob damage and hunger behavior.
Hardcore Survival locked to Hard difficulty with no respawn. Commands and bonus chest are disabled for this mode.
Creative Fly and build with endless materials; monsters cannot hurt you.

The game mode and difficulty are stored in the save settings. The HUD also changes by mode, so some survival meters are hidden in Creative or Spectator views.
